Diseases of Tomato Plants in the Rainy Season
The rainy season is sometimes a challenge for farmers due to high humidity levels, low temperatures, and high rainfall intensity. In this season, plants are usually susceptible to disease
Here are some tomato plant diseases that often occur in the rainy season and are caused by unfavorable conditions.
Tomato plants that are deficient in calcium or boron can develop a disease called fruit tip rot. Affected plants will show symptoms in the form of large spots on the tips of young fruits.
The spots are brown to black. The presence of these spots can interfere with fruit development and the fruit becomes stiff or hard.
This disease is caused by plants that receive too much nitrogen so that plant growth becomes fast. In addition, disease is also caused by drastic changes in humidity due to heavy rains in dry areas.
1. Lack of fertilizers and pesticides
Roots that are directly exposed to concentrated artificial fertilizers can rot and break. Severe damage can affect shoot growth. Excessive nitrogen will stimulate excessive negative growth so that crop production is reduced.
Plants that experience pesticide poisoning, especially insecticides, will show symptoms in the form of leaf edges that dry up like burning. The color of the leaves changes to brownish white with a hard texture like paper.
2. Etiolation
Etiolation is caused by plants that lack sunlight. This condition can cause plant growth to become elongated and the leaf grains are less green. On the other hand, when a plant receives too much sunlight, its growth will be impaired. Tomatoes look like they've been scalded.
Diseases caused by sunlight that is too hot attack plants suddenly. This disease can cause plants to be susceptible to fungal attacks on the leaves so that the fruit does not protect the fruit. This often happens when the weather is hot and dry. This symptom rarely occurs in fruit that is still green.
