Name of Aceh's Traditional Clothing

Aceh has a culture that is no less charming than other regions. Likewise with traditional Acehnese clothes. Called Veranda of Mecca, Aceh has traditional clothing that cannot be separated from Islamic law.




Usually these clothes are used during important ceremonies, weddings or traditional performances. Let's take a peek at the beauty of Aceh's traditional clothes.


1. Meukasa


This outfit has been divided into several sections. The upper part of the traditional linto baro clothing is called meukasah.


This shirt, which looks like a beskap, is made of woven silk. In general, meukasa has a black color which symbolizes majesty. In addition, the meukasah is covered with a collar that resembles the collar of a cheongsam. On the collar to the chest there is gold embroidery.


2. Sileuweu


These pants are also known as civet weasel. Sileuweu has the same color as meukasa. Using cotton material, these pants are emphasized and widened at the bottom.


Sileuweu is usually equipped with a songket sarong when used. This is intended to increase the authority of the wearer. How to wear it simply tied at the waist and the length limit is about 10 cm above the knee.


3. Meukeutop


Meukeutop is a typical Aceh skullcap. This skullcap has an oval shape upwards. In addition, meukeutop is also decorated with a roll of silk cloth in the shape of an octagonal star called tengkulok.


Meukeutop has a blend of five colors, each of which has its own meaning. The red color on the meukeutop has the meaning of heroism, yellow means the sultanate, green symbolizes Islam, black as a symbol of assertiveness and white.


4. Parentheses


Baju Kurung is a blend of Malay, Arabic and Chinese cultures. This shirt has a loose model so it doesn't show the curves of a woman's body. The brackets shirt has a gold thread embroidered collar and motif.


In its use, a typical Aceh songket is wrapped around the waist using a rope called taloe ki ieng broken elbow reung.


5. Weasel chokes


Just like men's clothing, women also wear civet cuffs. The difference is that the color of the pants for women is brighter and adjusts to the bracket used. The ankles of these pants are decorated with gold thread embroidery.
